An iconic lighthouse in the Brest Roadstead
Situated in the commune of Plouzané, the Petit-Minou Lighthouse marks the entrance to the Goulet de Brest a strategic navigational channel.
Entering service in 1848, it was designed to ensure safe access to the roadstead using an alignment system with the Portzic Lighthouse.
Its cylindrical granite tower standing 26 meters tall and reaching an elevation of approximately 34 meters above sea level remains a distinctive coastal landmark today.
Automated since 1989, it continues to play a vital role in maritime navigation while attracting numerous visitors.
A site blending heritage and nature
The Petit-Minou Lighthouse is set in a rich environment that combines military history with unspoiled nature.
Visitors reach the site by passing through the Fort du Petit-Minou, built in the late 17th century to defend the Brest Roadstead.
A stone bridge then leads to the lighthouse, which stands on a rocky outcrop facing the ocean.
During your visit, take the time to explore:
- The fortifications and military ruins
- The old signal station
- The coastal path (GR34), popular for its scenic viewpoints.
From this vantage point, the panorama opens up to reveal the Iroise Sea and the Crozon Peninsula.
On a clear day, the view is truly striking, especially at sunset.
